My wife and I went to Takhlakh Lake in mid October to check out the fall foliage
We tried the newly repaired FR23 From Randle, WA which only takes 2.5-3 total hours from Tacoma.
The past three years we had to take a very long route to get there,
via FR 90 off Woodland at I-5 first two years, then this year I-5, down to Oregon,
along Columbia River I-84 to Hood River, then hwy 141 in via Trout Lake,
due to FR23 & Hwy 90 being closed for damage repairs.
Takes 5 & 8 hours via those two routes (counting stops of course). Now it can be a day trip.
Lovely drive on the way up. Stopped at Cispus River Bridge.
Because of the wildfires when we were there earlier in August, we couldn't see Mt Adams at all.
Crystal clear this time! What a gorgeous day, Heaven on Earth!
Saw three boats on the lake this afternoon. No "gas" motorized boats allowed here.
Next time we'll bring our raft.
The meadow in the photo above was ablazed with wildflowers when we were there in Aug.
My wife spent a couple hours fishing, caught one trout. Last year she caught two 20incher.
This was in the afternoon. Morning and Evening fishing would be much better!
Last years 20" beauty my wife caught!
Saw the resident Bald Eagle that we've seen the past three years here.
No Osprey on this day that we've seen before. Did see three otters playing around.
Walked the Takhlakh Loop Trail part way around lake.
The Moon was rising over the mountain if you look closely.
It was hard to leave for home! The road heading out toward home.
Saw some nice barns with foliage on the way home.
And of course we saw the famous Mt Rainer on the way home!
Goodbye until next year... Can't wait... we come back every year!
Last years trip here, lots of great pics. No wildfires either!
